GENIUS Act BSA customer identification programme, joint proposed rule, comments close
Joint proposed rule published 22 June 2026 would treat permitted payment stablecoin issuers as financial institutions under the Bank Secrecy Act and require a customer identification programme. Comments close 21 August 2026.
GENIUS Act takes effect, prohibition on non-permitted stablecoin issuance
The Act prohibits anyone other than a permitted payment stablecoin issuer from issuing a payment stablecoin in the United States, effective on the earlier of 18 January 2027 or 120 days after all primary federal regulators issue final rules.
